The Doorstep Project.

It all begins with an idea.

It all began in March 2020 when Boris Johnson announced that as a country we will go into national lockdown. For me, thankfully I was still working at my full time job Monday to Friday and was able to work from home.

I was doing photography part time after launching my business in July 2019 and had started to build up bookings - especially weddings. Unfortunately, with a global pandemic on the cards, everything had to be cancelled! My heart broke for all the brides/grooms who were due to be married in the coming months.

When Boris announced that we could start to meet people outside staying 2m apart, I launched ‘The Doorstep Project’. I printed off some letters explaining that I would take photos of the family from their doorstep/garden for them to remember this strange time we’re all in whilst getting some beautiful family photos. The photoshoot and all the photos would be given to them for FREE. All I asked for was a donation towards the NHS and set up a JustGiving page. Off I went around my local neighbourhood posting the letters through the doors (secretly I’ve always wanted to know what it was like to be a postman). The next day, I knocked on each door and out of 30 letters I posted, 5 took me up on the offer.

I just loved it! I hadn’t taken a single photo for over 2 months and it felt so good to be doing what I love - albeit from a 2m distance! I was able to post the photos on Facebook and Instagram to inform people that I was offering this free shoot to raise money for the NHS and had an influx of messages.

Over the next couple of weeks, I went round my local town and surrounding places taking photos of the most wonderful families. It was just so nice to speak to people after being in lockdown and checking in to see how they were doing.

In total, I raised over £1,000 for the NHS and it felt amazing to be able to give back to the people who were working so tremendously hard to keep the country safe.

I have lots more ideas to raise money for charities and will continue to give back. If anyone has any ideas or would like to collaborate, please get in touch and send me a message.

Together, we can get through anything!
